Adjusting garage door springs is a common repair. Newer steel doors with only one strut on top often need only 7 1 4 turns. Otherwise continue winding until you reach a count of 30 this is 7 1 2 turns which is normal for most 7 garage doors. At this point you will wind the springs.

If the garage door isn t opening or closing properly then check the tension on the torsion springs for needed adjustments you may need to have someone helping you to adjust the torsion spring because it can be potentially dangerous. Garage door springs are used to offset the weight of the door. Without the springs the door is very difficult to lift. Adjusting the tension or balance spring on an up and over garage door when the door feels heavy. Adjust the springs on both sides of the door the same way.

The springs are located at the top inside part of the garage door. This is accomplished by opening the garage door as fully as possible until it hits the stop bolt on the track. Begin by turning the spring up 1 4 turn until it meets resistance. Once your garage door is secured remove the spring hook from the track hanger which will allow you to move the hook and adjust the spring s tension.
